Despite being overweight, Tracy becomes a regular on the show which infuriates the show’s star Amber Von Tussle, who is a pushy and privileged girl and also a classmate of Tracy. "Hairspray" is a musical comedy directed by John Waters, The story centers around two teenage best friends Tracy Turnblad and Penny Pingleton, who audition for the Corny Collins Show, the most popular teen dance show in Baltimore. This film is an absolute classic in the musical genre, and should be appreciated not only for its comedic relief, but for its choreography and message. The characters themselves have a lot of personality, which makes them relatable. This is a highly entertaining film that is fun for audience members young and old with plenty of entertaining songs to sing along with as well as humor that will make you laugh until your sides ache. However, Tracy uses her new-found fame to champion the cause of racial integration at the Corny Collins Dance Show with the help of her family and friends, which gives her community a new perspective on tolerance and humanity. While at the same time beginning an interracial romance with one of her African-American classmates which is not well received by the community. They teach her and her friends some dance moves they have never seen before, which Tracy then uses on the Corny Collins show.
